- background. Pool Park was rediscovered by NWCC in 1984 after digging through a boulder choke at the 140yd level in the Pool Park Mine. Pool Park is the largest cave in North Wales, and includes extensive fossil passage together with the main Miners River passage and three inlet streamways. There remains much work to do in the system, including completion of surveying, and pushing upstream towards Ogof Cefn-y-gist
